Earn a Certificate in Community-Based Assessment and Evaluation from St. Mary’s
The Certificate in Community-Based Assessment and Evaluation at St. Mary’s University is designed to prepare students to help non-profit organizations build internal capacity for culturally responsive evaluation. Students learn how to assemble and make sense of quantitative and qualitative data for the purposes of providing an ecological sound account of program impact.
The 15-credit-hour certificate program is offered on campus to undergraduate students and online to graduate students.
Undergraduate Certificate Program
Students pursuing the undergraduate certificate in Community-Based Assessment and Evaluation will strengthen their applications to graduate school by learning advanced concepts in applied statistics, measurement and grant writing. The program also provides students with practical experience through collaborations with local nonprofit organizations and the foundation to build a strong professional network.
Undergraduate students take classes on campus. Courses include:
- Advanced Statistics
- Applied Program Evaluation
- Grant Writing
- Introductory Statisics
- Tests and Measurements
Online Graduate Certificate Program
Students pursuing the graduate certificate will develop research skills and strengthen their knowledge of statistics, making them more appealing to prospective doctoral programs or employers. Students will learn to apply their knowledge and expertise toward addressing complex problems affecting vulnerable populations, as well as gain practical experience to build new professional relationships and résumés.
Graduate students take classes online. Courses include:
- Advanced Statistics
- Applied Program Evaluation
- Grant Writing
- Qualitative Methods
- Race, Class and Gender in Community-based Research
Admission Requirements and Process
If you are interested in admission to the undergraduate or graduate Certificate in Community-Based Assessment and Evaluation program, apply via the St. Mary’s University application.
Admission to the Undergraduate Certificate
Undergraduate students enrolled at St. Mary’s University will be eligible to enroll in the program after they fulfill the University core mathematics course, earning at least a C. Interested students will contact the certificate program director to apply. The Program Director will contact the Registrar to officially enroll students in the certificate program and confirm that the mathematics prerequisite has been earned.
Non-degree-seeking students will also apply to the Program Director who will then direct them to the Office of Admission. Upon admission to St. Mary’s, non-degree-seeking students will be eligible to enroll in the program upon verification by the Registrar of an earned degree from an accredited institution. The earned degree must include at least three hours of mathematics credit with a minimum grade of C.
Admission to the Graduate Certificate
Graduate and law students enrolled at St. Mary’s University will be eligible to enroll in the program upon acceptance and enrollment. Interested students will contact the certificate Program Director who will contact the Registrar to officially enroll students in the certificate program.
Graduate students lacking strong statistical/mathematical preparation will also be eligible to enroll in the certificate program upon verification by the Registrar at St. Mary’s and verification of fulfillment of the undergraduate mathematics prerequisite.

Additional admission requirements to the Graduate Certificate in Community-Based Assessment and Evaluation include a résumé/CV and statement of purpose. The GRE/GMAT is not required for admission to the certificate program.
